Artificial Grass Installation in Austin, TX
Premium artificial grass installed across Austin and the Hill Country. No mowing, no watering schedule, and a yard that looks the same in August as it does in April.
Premium Artificial Turf: Heat-Ready, Pet-Safe, Central Texas Tough
Austin is a hard place to keep a lawn alive. Between the summer heat, the watering schedule, the chinch bugs, and soil that either turns to concrete or swallows your fence posts, most homeowners here spend years fighting for a yard they still aren’t happy with.
Big Bully Turf installs premium artificial grass across Austin and the surrounding Hill Country. These are engineered systems, designed to handle Central Texas heat, drain through our soil, and stay green when the Highland Lakes drop and the sprinklers shut off. No mowing, no watering schedule, no more patchy brown yard.
Why Austin Lawns Are So Hard to Keep
Most turf companies will tell you Texas is hot. True, but that’s the easy part. The reasons Austin lawns actually fail are more specific.
- The watering schedule. Austin Water runs a year-round mandatory schedule. Even at the least restrictive Conservation Stage, most homeowners get one or two irrigation days per week, and only inside the approved early-morning and evening windows. Restrictions tighten as Highland Lakes storage drops.
- The heat. Weeks of 100-degree days will cook St. Augustine grass faster than any watering allowance can repair.
- The pests. Chinch bugs and take-all root rot do more damage to Austin lawns than drought does, and they hit hardest in exactly the stressed, under-watered turf the restrictions create.
- The soil. This is the one nobody talks about, and it’s the reason a lot of turf installations in Austin fail early.
Artificial Grass Services in Austin
Residential Lawns
Front yards, backyards, side yards and parkways. Custom-cut and seamed to your layout, with clean edges against beds, patios and limestone borders.
Pet Turf and Dog Runs
Our backing is fully permeable edge to edge, so urine passes straight through instead of pooling. Antimicrobial technology inhibits the bacteria that cause odor and mildew, which matters a lot more in Austin humidity than it does in a dry climate.
Backyard Putting Greens
True-rolling custom greens with contours, cups and fringe, built to your yard’s shape. Practice year-round without a tee time.
Playgrounds and Play Areas
Soft, non-abrasive surfaces with proper drainage and optional padding. No mud, no bald patches, and no fertilizer or pesticide residue where kids play.
Commercial Properties
Multifamily, retail, office, hospitality and HOA common areas across the Austin metro. Turf pays for itself fastest where irrigation and mowing costs are highest.
Hardscape
Pavers, walkways, patios and pool decks designed to work with the turf rather than fight it, including the limestone-heavy looks that suit Hill Country properties.
Why Some Austin Turf Installs Go Wavy After a Year
When turf fails in Austin, the grass is rarely the problem. What’s underneath it usually is.
East of I-35, most yards sit on deep black clay that holds water and moves with it, swelling when wet and shrinking hard in drought. Turf laid over untreated clay puddles after storms and goes lumpy once the ground shifts. Those yards need deeper excavation, a heavier aggregate base, and grading that pushes water off the surface instead of trapping it.
West of I-35, in Westlake, Steiner Ranch, Lakeway and Bee Cave, you often hit limestone or a caliche layer before you reach base depth. Those yards need rock removal, or a build-up approach when digging down isn’t practical.
Same city, two very different jobs. If a quote doesn’t say which one your yard is, ask before you sign it.
Why Austin Homeowners Choose Big Bully Turf
EffortlessFlow by Carla artificial turf, built for heat. Our proprietary turf uses heat-smart yarns and reflective backing to reduce peak surface temperatures in full sun.
Waffles Cooling Infill. Most companies fill your turf with plain silica sand that stores heat all afternoon. Our cooling infill is a purpose-built alternative. Worth asking about specifically if your yard gets hard western exposure, which most Austin backyards do.
Drainage that clears a Texas storm. Our mesh-flow backing drains at 1,500 square inches per hour, compared to roughly 30 for typical hole-punch backing. When Austin gets four inches in an afternoon, that difference is your yard versus a pond.
Odor and mildew control. Antimicrobial backing delivers 99% odor reduction and inhibits mildew growth.
A 25-year warranty. Most turf sold in this market carries a 15-year product warranty. Ours is 25.

Artificial Grass and Austin HOA Rules
If you’re in Circle C, Steiner Ranch, Avery Ranch, Mueller or Belterra, you’ve probably assumed synthetic grass is a non-starter with your board. Usually it isn’t.
Texas law protects your right to choose water-conserving landscaping. Your board can ask you to submit a plan, hold you to quality and appearance standards, and request product specs. What it generally cannot do is turn you down simply for replacing a thirsty lawn with something that doesn’t need watering. Boards also can’t fine you for a brown lawn when city watering restrictions are the reason it went brown in the first place.
Most Austin communities run an architectural review application, and we deal with these constantly. We’ll put together the product documentation, specifications and design drawings your board expects, so your submission looks like every other approved project instead of a question mark.
Every community’s rules read a little differently, so it’s worth checking your own CC&Rs. We’re glad to help you prep the submission.

Artificial Grass Cost and Financing in Austin
Every yard prices differently. The variables that move an Austin quote most are square footage, how much demo and excavation the site needs, whether we’re cutting into limestone, the turf product you choose, and how much detail work the layout requires. Curves, borders and tight side yards take longer than open rectangles.
Rather than quote you a per-foot number that won’t match your yard, we measure on site and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Financing is available on approved credit, including 0% interest for 12 months with no prepayment penalty. Ask your consultant what current promotions apply to your project.
Austin Artificial Grass FAQs
How much does artificial grass cost in Austin?
Cost depends on square footage, site prep, turf selection and design complexity. Austin projects vary widely because west-side limestone sites often need rock removal while east-side clay sites need deeper base work. We provide free on-site measurement and a fixed quote before any work begins.
Can my HOA stop me from installing artificial grass in Austin?
Usually not. Texas law protects your right to install water-conserving landscaping, so a board generally can’t reject artificial grass just for not being real grass. It can still require pre-approval and hold you to quality and appearance standards, so submit an architectural review application first. We supply the documentation your board needs.
Does artificial turf get too hot in Austin summers?
Synthetic turf does run warmer than natural grass in direct sun, which is why product choice matters in Central Texas. Our EffortlessFlow by Carla turf uses heat-smart yarns and reflective backing, and our Waffles Cooling Infill is designed specifically to reduce peak surface temperature compared to standard silica sand. Shade, hosing down, and lighter-colored infill all help further.
How long does artificial grass last in Austin?
With quality turf and professional installation, expect 15 to 20 or more years. High-traffic areas like pet runs and play zones typically show wear sooner, around 8 to 12 years, while low-traffic areas can exceed two decades. Our turf is backed by a 25-year warranty. Learn more about how long turf lasts in Texas.
Is artificial grass good for dogs?
It’s one of the most common reasons Austin homeowners call us. There’s no mud, no dead patches and no holes. Our fully permeable backing lets urine pass straight through instead of pooling, and the antimicrobial layer inhibits odor-causing bacteria and mildew. Rinse periodically and it stays fresh.
How much water does artificial grass save?
Outdoor irrigation is one of the largest components of a Central Texas summer water bill. Artificial grass eliminates lawn irrigation entirely, which removes that cost permanently and keeps your yard green regardless of which Austin Water drought stage is in effect.
Do you serve the suburbs around Austin?
Yes. We install throughout Travis, Williamson and Hays counties, including Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Dripping Springs, Buda and Kyle.
